Hi there!
I’m Julia, the founder, the artist, and the dreamer behind Julia Young Photography, a boutique lifestyle photography experience. So often, photographers focus so much on their clients and sharing their client’s stories, that we sometime forget to share our own. It is important to me to make true, authentic, and intentional connections with my clients and I want to thank each and every one of my past, present, and future clients for allowing me to help capture memories for your families.
Starting this blog is a way for me to not only showcase my lifestyle photography business, Julia Young Photography, but also to serve as a journal of my family, my life, and our adventures together! Here is my story, enjoy!
The Young Family
“Mom, can we go outside?” “Let’s go out and play!” “Let’s learn by exploring and doing!” These are just a few of the many common expressions you would hear if you entered our family’s home. We are a family of adventurers, nature lovers, and seekers of the little joys in life. This lifestyle is one that I was born into. Many people find it surprising that I am German.
I spent my happy childhood as what I would call a “free range” child…running around in the woods and exploring our tiny village that consisted of 1 bakery, 1 grocery store, and not one single traffic light! Growing up, dirty clothes meant you spent another great day adventuring- this is the essence of true childhood in my mind!
My husband, Chris, is also an adventurer by nature. Because he grew up in a military family, he moved over 17 different times in his life. In fact, he is still an active member in the Army, and is due to retire May 2019! We met while stationed in Germany, and the rest is history!
Lots of Moving around the World
In our 10 years of marriage, our family relocated a few times based on where the Army sends us. We first moved from Germany to Monterey, California, where our first son, Lukas was born. Then, we moved to Colorado, and then moved back to Germany, where our second son Liam and daughter, Charlotte were born. Finally, in 2018, we moved back to the States (when Charlotte was only 18 days old I might add!), and Colorado Springs our home since.
Our world got so much bigger and our lives became even more meaningful when our children arrived. Currently, we have three very social, happy, and go with the flow children and would love to add to our family in years to come. Fortunately, our kids are good sleepers and great eaters, which is not always the norm! Each of them has their own distinct personality, quirks, and passions, but they all share an absolute love for the outdoors. It’s just in our blood.
The Young Kids
Lukas (8.5 years) is our athlete and “golden child.” He is very driven and is dreaming of one day skiing in the Olympics. It’s not always easy to have to share the attention with his siblings after being the only child for so long. It’s hard for him to see that his brother has such a different personality then him. He adores his little sister, and will never let her get hurt. He’s a little entrepreneur who loves to help and lately is into finding business ideas on how to make money to buy a snowmobile in the future.
Liam (3.5years) is our chill “middle child”. He still loves his nap time and what makes him most happy is cuddles with gentle tickles. Most likely, you’ll find him with his binky and blankie, but he tries so hard to be as “cool” as his brother whom he refers to as “LUTAS.” 🙂
Charlotte (18 months) is our sweet little one that is trying to keep up with her rough brothers. She loves her brothers and they love her. Her favorite thing right now is music and dancing. Random strangers are quick to compliment her wherever we go on how cute she is and is sure to grow up with a love of style and fashion. 🙂
As a family, we have really solid values, and always put family first. We adore family meal time, do our best to live a healthy and active lifestyle, limit screen time, adore camping, cooking/baking, swimming, and of course just spending time together cuddling as a family. On the weekends, we can be found either doing chores around our home, exploring, biking, and hiking around Colorado, and taking as many spontaneous day and weekend trips as possible.
We are a family of travelers and although we truly miss the ease of traveling when we lived in Europe, we still manage to explore as much as possible here in Colorado. The joy and excitement of seeing new places, trying new foods and activities, and meeting new people is priceless. Soon, we hope to be traveling the world together as a family (and of course documenting every special moment) 🙂 We want our children to grow up understanding that differences can bring us together, that new languages help us understand new cultures, and that the world is a beautiful place worth exploring!
The kids enthusiastically ask when they will get to visit a hotel or ride on an airplane again…their childlike wonder and shear excitement about traveling is something I hope I never take for granted. We have been to 6 states and 12 countries, and we are just getting started. Our travel bucket list grows each day, and we are eager for the next trip!
Our Future Goals
The family goal is to find 5 acres of land that has plenty of space to play and explore, build our dream home, continue to travel, and of course grow Julia Young Photography! I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue to work with amazing families everywhere I go, and look forward to the days, months and years to come and all the memories that will be made.
Thanks for stopping by! My life is not perfect, but it is perfect for me, and I am so excited to be able to share more of my family, photography, and life’s little joys here on my page with each and every one of you.
I would love to connect and help you capture your own family’s special moments. Let’s book a lifestyle photography session today!
Until next time,
Julia
