From the moment they could stand on their own, we introduced our Littles to skiing , and it has since become one of our favorite winter family activities.
Last week, we took a ski vacation in the Mountain Village of beautiful Telluride, Colorado and stayed at The Peaks Resort and Spa. This beautiful resort offered incredible amenities, including a fantastic spa, the comforts of home, ski-in ski-out accommodations, and even a pool with a waterslide! We hit the slopes with the Littles, and played in the pool for our downtime. This place is so magical! And, the natural beauty and 1800s feel of downtown Telluride is so good for the soul!
Teaching the Littles how to ski is a wonderful and exciting way to instill self-discipline and courage at an early age. They will take these “lessons” with them for the rest of their lives, not to mention, we get to cross off items on our very own bucket lists. They will pass these memories down to their future Littles!
Now you may be thinking that it is easier to swipe left and right to see all the beautiful wonders of the world right from the comfort of your own home, but nothing exciting ever happens in our comfort zones! This is not me, nor the life I want for my children!
Here’s how we manage our snowy adventures with the Littles:
It’s very important to plan, but don’t become rigid when you have Littles! Devise a plan of alternatives in case things deviate from the original plans, for they will! Ease up and enjoy the flow of life.
When travelling with Littles, it’s important to understand they may tire out quickly. Build your adventure around the necessary naps, and enjoy one for yourself, too!
When going into a colder climate with Littles, it is imperative to dress them in layers. The more layers, the better! The “onion effect” is the right way to go to ensure you can add warmth when they are outside and subtract warmth when the Littles come inside to rest.
My husband and I ALWAYS take our Coleman collapsible wagon on our adventures. Not only does the wagon assist in hauling gear, it doubles as a mobile napping station when the Littles tucker out. Anything that makes transporting your necessities to and from your location is absolutely essential!
Planning outdoor adventures is important for you and your Littles! Outside is nature’s medicine and the therapy we all need! The joy on my children’s face when they have the opportunity to connect with nature and stay children will help develop them into appreciative, mindful adults. You can enjoy yourself, too!
A special thanks to The Peaks Resort & Spa for providing our family with a wonderful stay and offering top quality amenities. We totally recommend this resort and their hospitable staff for your next family vacation.
