Hey there! Welcome back to the Julia Young Photography journal…I am so excited to share with you a little bit about our amazing glamping adventures and travel photography with WiesenBett!
As a nature loving, adventure seeking family, we spend a LOT of time outdoors. And, our 3 littles absolutely adore it! We have always dreamed of one day buying a lot of land, building our dream home, and even owning cows, pigs, and chickens! There is something so charming, yet economical, about having a small hobby farm 🙂 I know Lukas, Liam, and Charlotte would have a blast taking care of the farm animals, driving the tractor, getting to explore on our own land, and running barefoot from dawn to dusk…just like I did when I was growing up in Germany!
Our first little taste of “farm life” as a family of 4 (sweet Charlotte hadn’t joined our family yet!), came in 2016 while we were living in Stuttgart, Germany. While planning for a big family adventure, we were doing tons and tons of online research and stumbled upon an online company called WiesenBett. We immediately knew that this was one experience we couldn’t pass up!
WiesenBett is a fantastic company that partners with farmers all over the world to provide travelers, families, and adventurers of all kinds the experience of “life on the farm” in an upscaled rugged way known as “glamping”. They put up quaint canvas tents on partnered farm fields. Despite having hundreds of locations around Western Europe, the tents have exactly the same floor plan, amenities, and decor!
For our first WiesenBett glamping vacation, we picked the De Kalverweide farm in Kallenkote, Netherlands. We absolutely love the Netherlands, and had been wanting to visit the picturesque canal-filled village of Gietheroon. So, being just a short bike ride away from Giethoorn, the De Kalverweide farm seemed like the perfect choice. From the moment we stepped foot on the farm and in the tent, we were hooked on WiesenBett.
There were pedal cars and trailers for the kids to ride on and a trampoline for them to get rid of their constant energy! But, the fun didn’t stop there! There was hay to move around to feed the cows, cows to milk, pigs to feed, chicken eggs to gather, and a wood burning stove heated hot tub to soak in. Our oldest, Lukas was enthralled by the farm life and his excitement was evident by him shouting “Let’s go see if there are any eggs!” throughout the entire trip. 🙂 One of the kids’ favorite dinners at the farm was the pizza night provided by the farmer’s family, because each family member gets to make their own pizza with their favorite toppings.
There was fun for everyone in the family to be had. Naturally, I couldn’t help but pick up my camera as soon as we arrived and spent our glamping weekend photographing the magic of WiesenBett! I photographed everything. The tent, our meals, the kids playing, and the kids working the farm.
After returning home to Germany, I could not WAIT to look at all the adorable photos that I captured on our trip. We instantly connected with WisenBett. After sharing our fun images and positive reviews of our stay, we established a business partnership that we could not be happier about! As a photographer and a mother, I cherish these sweet, adventurous experiences. And, I am thankful for amazing companies like WiesenBett who aim to provide authentic, yet whimsical encounters in nature; where true childhood magic and joy can be found!
Thankfully, our travel photography with WiesenBett did not end at the De Kalverweide farm! We have since been to three different farms, including two in Germany and one in Belgium to photograph more fun and make family memories!
Hopefully, one day we can recreate this farm life magic on our OWN farm. But until then, we will absolutely be back to visit another WiesenBett location for some rustic family vacation fun. I highly recommend you do the same 🙂
As always, thanks for reading along with our family travel adventures here at Julia Young Photography!
With love,
